Welcome to the Geospatial Environmental Social Science Lab

Oh, hello!  We’ve been waiting for you.  Curious students and caring community members are the key to our investigations into programs designed to improve the environment.  We create maps, study the social network that bind people together, and turn interviews into documentaries in a quest to understand things like:

  • C. Chantrill, A. Wilson, and N. SmebackHow do communities change during intensive environmental clean-up efforts?
  • What explains the uneven vegetation change in response to foreclosure and what does this teach us about urban environments?
  • How does environmental change challenge management recommendations everywhere from backyard gardens or federal public land?

We study questions central to sustainability and if we don’t know the answer…we take an educated GESS!
